Does vaccinating teenage girls with the HPV vaccine promote promiscuity? Researchers have found that HPV vaccination did not increase the risk of pregnancy or the STIs among females aged 14 to 17. Researchers presented that there is “strong evidence that HPV vaccination does not have any significant effect on clinical indicators of sexual behavior among adolescent girls.” Read more….

B.C. is now adopting a 2 dose schedule for the Q-HPV vaccine for younger girls. As of October 20th, girls aged 9 to 14 years of age will receive only 2 doses of the HPV vaccine (versus the previously recommended 3 doses). Three doses will continue to be offered to girls commencing a series on or after their 15th birthday.

“It’s the culprit in many cancers — human papilloma virus or HPV. BC has a comprehensive vaccination program against it, but it’s only free for girls. And that’s not going over well with 11-year-old twin brothers from New Westminster who may also be at risk.”

Parents of Alberta boys in Grade 5 now have the option of having their sons vaccinated against the HPV virus. The provincial government expects to vaccinate about 30,000 boys across the province this year.
Dr. James Talbot, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, says this is a significant step for the province:“I mean all I really need to say is a vaccine that prevents cancer. That’s as good as it gets!”
