Australian Study: HPV vaccine protects from cervical abnormalities

Researchers in Australia conducted a study of over 100,000 women to estimate the effectiveness of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine.

“The [HPV] vaccine offers young women significant protection against cervical abnormalities…it was particularly effective against high-grade abnormalities and in younger women” said one of the authors of the study.

The study analyzed data from a vaccine registry in Australia, collecting information from 108,535 women who were eligible for a free HPV vaccine. The study estimated the protection of the HPV vaccine as well as the protection from partial vaccination (1 shot versus 2 or 3 shots). Read more about the study here.
